Flying Geese Block



The Flying Geese quilt block contains all triangles. But you'll make this block using squares and rectangles. How is that possible? I'm going to show you exactly how it's done.



What You Need

Seam allowance included in measurement of the cut fabric.


Step 1

Place the light strip on the cutting mat. Cut four
3 ½" x 3 ½" squares.

Step 2

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each square.

Arrange shapes like this:

Step 4

Place a light square on left corner of each rectangle. Right sides together. Edges even. Stitch on drawn line.

Step 5

Trim seams to ¼".

Step 6

Press seams toward dark fabric.

Press Seams Toward Light Fabric

Step 7

Place a light square on right side of each rectangle. Right sides together. Edges even. Stitch on drawn line.

Trim seams to ¼".

Step 9

Press seams toward dark fabric.

Press Seams Toward Light Fabric

Step 10

You now have two 3 ½" x 6 ½" units.

Wrong Sides of Fabric

Flip Row 1 onto Row 2. Right sides together. Edges even. Stitch using a scant ¼" seam allowance.

Step 12

Press seam up.

Stitch rows together

Flying Geese quilt block should measure 6 ½" x 6 ½".
